The VillaThe Chalet

A 45 minute drive from Rhodes airport, Villa Athena is a 6 bed 3 bathroom villa of 250m2 that has been furnished with a mixture of local antique furniture and modern. It also has all modern appliances such as air conditioning throughout, power showers, plasma TV and DVD, stereo inside and out with iPod docking station, wireless internet, and an American style fridge/freezer with an all-important ice maker for cocktails and outside there is a Greek style barbeque. The Villa is located on a large 2000m2 block of land and has a continuous horizon pool that looks over the Bay of Navarone, made famous by the David Niven film “Guns Of Navarone”. A welcome pack of wine and various basics is provided on your arrival to get you through the first night and breakfast.

The area, and things to doThe Chalet

Villa Athena is in the next bay to Lindos, approximately 1 km away. Lindos is dominated by a 2400 year old Acropolis which is simply stunning. Beneath it nestles a village of white painted fishermans cottages and captains houses joined by a warren of streets too narrow for cars. The outside facades remain unchanged as permission is needed even to repaint shutters; but inside characterful bars, restaurants and clubs are hewn out of the interiors. Our three favourite restaurants out of the huge choice are Broccolini, run by an Italian couple who moved from New York and are sufficiently fanatical to import their own coffee by suitcase; Melonos a boutique hotel lovingly restored by a semi retired Greek Millionaire over a 12 year period; and Philosophia, a family beach restaurant in Pefkos 1 km to the south of the villa.

Rhodes, weather and things to do

Rhodes is a large island located far to the south opposite the southern edges of Turkey. It is around 3 hours 45 minutes flight from Gatwick and is serviced by Easyjet and various other charter flights. It has over 300 days sunshine every year and the temperature is normally 24 – 28 degrees in April rising to 28 – 32 degrees in June and to the high 30's in July / August and similarly down again to the end of October. Rains arrive from late November to February.

There is a huge variety of things to do. Rhodes is steeped in history and the old town is the largest inhabited medieval city in Europe , once a staging post for Knights on their crusades.

There are some beautiful beaches varying from the stunning bay at St Pauls near to the villa to Prassonissi 40 km south where the world windsurf championships are held . We often go to a worlds leading hotel resort 5 km south, Lindian Village and use its 3 interconnecting pools , have lunch and hire catamarans , windsurfers and waterski.

There is a serviceable golf course 20km north ; tennis ; there is a water park for the children ; great walks when it isn’t too hot and a days drive round the island will offer many interesting stops along the way . As well as some excellent restaurants , Lindos offers lots of small boutique shops and several quality spas.
